My Proposal

As the main topic of the documentary I will be filming focuses on ‘Our World’, I decided to look more in to the city where I live and what goes on there. Due to this, I decided that the theme of my documentary will focus on the events hosted in Chester with slight area of focus being on how these events have benefitted Chester or not if that is the case. For my research, I will be attending some events to capture footage as well as interviewing someone from Chester council about how the council feels about the events in Chester, if they are a success or not and also I will ask about how the events around Chester are planned. I also want to get in contact with a freelance event planner in or around Chester and ask their opinions on the events held in Chester. During this interview I could also ask about the way in which a freelance event planner works and if they have ever worked on an event held in Chester. If they had, I will ask how they think that event planning went and how they believed the overall event went. I will also be interviewing a fellow student on their opinions on the events in and around Chester and if they have ever attended any. I would also like to get their opinion on how they feel events in Chester benefit the city. My final idea is to interview Stephen Mosley, a local MP about the financial side of holding events in Chester. Due to the fact that I will be interviewing people, my documentary will be mainly subjective.

There are a few factors as to why I have chosen this theme to create my documentary. The first reason and also the main reason, is because I wish to have a career in the Events business and I believe that by creating this documentary I can get an insight into this line of work, from both the event planners side, the city councils side and also the views of the public who attend the event. I also chose to do a documentary on Events in Chester because I live in a city that holds a lot of events and it can be a very insightful way of finding out more about the city where I live. With this documentary, I plan to educate people on both what events Chester has to offer and also the way in which events are created and all the planning involved up until the finished product and the end of the event. Just like other documentaries, I want to interview a few people who know about the event industry in Chester. Some of the questions I could ask people which I interview could be as follows:

“How do you feel Chester copes with events? For example, do you feel that the city is big enough to hold events which could potentially attract thousands of people?” – Chester Council.

“Have been involved in the planning and organising of an event in Chester?” – Event planner. “Have you enjoyed yourself at this event? Which part do you think was the best put together?” – Public

“How do you think holding events benefits Chester financially?” – Stephen Mosley.

By asking questions like this, I should be able to answer lots of questions asked by both the viewers of the documentary and also some questions I have.

This theme can attract a large audience as many people of all different ages attend events. Families tend to go to events such as Chester’s Winter wonderland together, as it is very much family orientated where as people tend to attend events such as concerts with their friends and people who share the same music. Due to this theme attracting many different age groups, I think that my documentary will appeal to lots of different people, therefore giving myself a wide audience. I also feel as though a documentary like this has not been made at all and definitely not one about Chester.
