The Lack Of Music Venues In Chester – Interview Questions

A concerned citizen:

 1.    Does your child regularly go to concerts in another city?

2.     What feelings do you have towards this?

3.    Would you feel a higher sense of security if your child was at a music venue in the city where you live?

4.    Would this alter your opinions of concerts if there was a music venue in Chester? Do you feel your child would be safer than if they were in a larger, more crowded city?

5.    At the moment, there is one main music venue in Chester, which is only for over 18’s. Do you think that if there was a music venue that catered for all ages, your child would prefer to go there as it is closer to home? (easier transport, cheaper, easier to get to)

6. The cost of transport to get to cities such as Manchester and Liverpool can sometimes cost as much as the concert ticket itself. Would you be willing to pay this or would you much rather your child go to gigs in Chester as this is is in closer proximity?

A festival planner:

1. Do you regularly go to concerts outside of Chester?

2. Chester lacks music venues such as the Manchester phones-4-u arena or even Liverpool’s Echo Arena. Do you think that for Chester to thrive as a recognised music area, it needs an arena like this?

3.   As a festival planner, you may be aware of the large, diverse music scene in Chester. Do you feel that if we had a purposefully built music venue, that this music scene could be expressed more?

4. Outside of the music scene, do you feel  that if Chester had a music venue such as Manchester Academy, it would benefit the city in any other way?  (if yes, how?)

5.   Chester Rocks has given Chester and the artists that perform there every year a lot of publicity. Do you think that because of this publicity, if Chester had a music venue, the artists would come back to the city to perform or stick to the larger cities such as Manchester and Liverpool as they know they have fans there?

6. Do you think Chester does enough to entice bands to perform in the city? (if so, how?)

7. Michael White, a writer from the Telegraph once said “I could see myself working for Chester’s marketing department, it must be an easy job. And if I did, I’d certainly be selling the place as a festival venue.” Do you agree with his idea and what do you think Chester would be like as a festival venue?

8. In your opinion, why hasn’t Chester been acknowledged as a place for bands to include as part of their tour dates?

A constant gig goer:

1. Do you feel that traveling to different cities for concerts all the time is annoying or do you feel that it adds to the experience?

2. If there was a concert hall in Chester, would you go to see bands there more often than other cities or would you stick to the larger cities such as Manchester and Liverpool?

3.The cost of transport to get to cities such as Manchester and Liverpool can sometimes cost as much as the concert ticket itself. Would you be willing to pay this or would you much rather go to gigs in Chester as this is is in closer proximity?
