Emma Willis is one of the UK’s most popular reality TV show presenters at the moment. She is featured heavily on ‘This Morning’ – a chat show on ITV aswell as being the only presenter on Big Brother and sharing a presenting role on The Voice. She also hosts a reality show called Girlfriends, which is currently in its second series.

On screen, Emma portrays a very bubbly personality which viewers may feel easier to watch than someone who may not be as happy. The way she constantly smiles and always laughs can make the audience feel as happy as she might be. Whilst presenting on This Morning, Emma has to be a lot calmer than when she is presenting on Big Brother due to the large target audience difference. She doesn’t need to jump around or be as energetic as she does when presenting to a younger audience, as the older audience wouldn’t want to watch that as much. She still portrays her bubbly and energetic persona whilst on the TV programme, however she is a lot more muted whilst doing this, making her look a lot more professional. When presenting on Big Brother on the other hand, she doesn’t need to be as professional and can use the energy that she has to get the audience all hyped up.

Emma has a very specific presenting style that she sticks to on every programme, which is helpful to the audience, as they know what they are going to see when watching her. She tends to ask a lot of rhetorical questions, especially when on Big Brother as this creates a connection between her and the audience, which can be very helpful for her and her career. She can also tame her bubbly and eccentric character when needed and go into a very serious mode, which she tends to use when reading out people’s reply’s and tweets as well as phone numbers people may need to ring to vote for someone if necessary. When speaking, Emma pauses a lot in between sentences to add atmosphere to everything she says, which adds something special to shows like Big Brother and makes the audience feel like they need to keep watching to find out what’s going to happen next.

Listening to someone who sounds happy can mean a lot to a person, and Emma does just that. With her very happy and slightly over eccentric tone of voice, her audience instantly feel more relaxed when listening to her, something they would not feel if she had a more stern and hard edge to the way she spoke. Although she does have a lack of a strong accent due to moving around a lot, you can recognise her voice before you see her, as she has a different way of speaking to most other TV presenters. There is a very high pitch in the way that she speaks and she tends to say words like ‘right’ at the beginning of sentences quite a lot. She also tends to speak to the camera like she is speaking to a person, making the way she presents very intimate, making the audience feel a lot closer to her.

As well as a specific style in the way Emma presents, her body language is a key feature of her TV personality. She always acts very feminine, from the way she walks with her back straight and her body upright, to the way she sits with her legs crossed. She tends to cross her legs when she is standing up also as a way of comfort. Whilst speaking, Emma uses her head a lot to illustrate what she is saying as well as using her hands to emphasise. Overall, they way she appears and comes across is quite informal, which helps the audience when watching her as they feel a lot more comfortable when doing so.
